Digital Media and Print (DMT) students can choose from a network of international partner universities specifically connected to the study program. These collaborations are designed to support academic exchange and provide valuable international experience in media, design, and communication.
Thanks to existing cooperation agreements, DMT partner universities offer a more structured exchange process with easier course recognition and coordinated support. The universities listed below are therefore the recommended choice for an international semester abroad.
Students of the Faculty of Design (FK05) have several opportunities to complete a semester abroad through different exchange partnerships and international cooperation programs.
There are four main application options available for students:
1. PROGRAM-SPECIFIC PARTNER UNIVERSITIES (DMT)
These partner universities are directly connected to the Digital Media and Print (DMT) study program and are the recommended option for DMT students.
Since these partnerships are already well established, students usually benefit from existing experience regarding course selection, credit recognition, organization, and communication processes.
Students applying for these universities are generally prioritized within the program.

2. Faculty-Wide Partner Universities (FK05)
In addition to the DMT partner universities, students may also apply for exchange opportunities offered through the entire faculty (FK05).
These universities are open to students from different study programs within the faculty. In many cases, students are required to organize parts of the exchange process more independently, such as course planning and credit transfer.

3. PARTNER UNIVERSITIES OF OTHER FACULTIES
Students may also apply for exchange programs that belong to other faculties.
However, applicants from the respective faculty are prioritized first. This means that FK05 students can only be considered for remaining spots after the internal faculty selection process has been completed.
This option offers additional international opportunities, but availability may be more limited.
4. FREE MOVER
Students also have the option to study abroad as a Free Mover, even at universities that do not have an official partnership with HM.
As a Free Mover, students apply directly to their preferred university and are responsible for organizing the entire application and study abroad process independently. This includes admission, course selection, accommodation, visa requirements (if applicable), and credit recognition.
Tip: It is strongly recommended to start planning at least one year in advance, as the application process can be more complex and time-consuming than applying through an official partner university.

Applications for all exchange options (Partner Universities, Faculty-Wide Partners, Other Faculties, and Free Mover) should be submitted to the appropriate office responsible for the selected program.
